Usage areas of Potassium pyrophosphate
Potassium pyrophosphate, also known as tetra potassium pyrophosphate, is made from the dissolution of di-potassium phosphate, which results in the loss of a water molecule. At room temperature, it is a white crystalline powder or granules, with strong moisture absorption in air, and easily soluble in water, but insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution is alkaline and acts to inhibit food spoilage and fermentation. It is hydrolyzed to potassium phosphate in an acid or alkaline solution. Cyanide is often applied before as complexing cyanide to prepare a coating solution.
Potassium pyrophosphate has all the properties of another polymeric phosphate, and is also similar to sodium pyrophosphate, but has greater solubility, and can have a chelating reaction with metal ions in alkaline earth and heavy metal ion; In hard water, Ca2+ can form a complex with Mg2+, thus softening hard water, increasing its washing ability and removing dirt. It can form a protective film on metal surfaces such as iron, lead, zinc and aluminum; The pyrophosphate ion (P2O74-) has a strong dispersion ability on fine and dispersed solids, thus promoting homogeneous mixing of fine, trace substances. High purity, low iron-type potassium pyrophosphate has a stable pH buffering capacity with long-term maintenance ability of the pH value of the solution.
Usage areas
- It is mainly applied to non-cyanide electroplating to be used as a complexing agent to replace sodium cyanide.
- It can also be used as a coating pretreatment agent and pyrophosphate coating solution.
- It can also be used as ingredients for the formulation of clothing detergent, metal surface cleaning agent, and bottle detergent, as well as additives used in various detergents.
- It can also be used as clay dispersant in the ceramic industry, dispersant, and buffer for pigment and paint.
- The bleaching and dyeing industry can use water to remove small amounts of ferric ions to improve dyeing.
- It can be used for non-cyanide electroplating, dyeing, clay, and other refining.
- It can be used as an analysis agent, hydrogen peroxide stabilizer, and soap filler.
- It is used as an emulsifier, texturizer, and chelating agent in the food industry.
- It can also be used as a raw material for the preparation of alkaline water for pasta.
- It is mostly used in combination with other concentrated phosphates.
- It is widely used to prevent the formation of struvite in canned fish, to prevent color loss of canned fruits, to increase the swelling degree of ice cream, to increase the extraction amount of coffee raw materials, and to increase the yield of ham and sausage.
- To increase fishing capacity, pasta taste, and yield, and prevent cheese from aging.
- The industrial production formulation of the coating solution to strengthen and level the coating layer is often very complex.
